In 2005 the Social Science and Humanities made it awards for six regional nodes and a national “hub” for its programme of research into the Social Economy in Canada. It was a five-year programme with a total budget of $15,000,000 divided equally among the regional nodes and the national hub. As the programme has developed under the name of the Canadian Social Economy Research Partnerships (CSERP), it has engaged the interests and helped fund the work of some 300 researchers (from both within and without the academy) and practitioners all across Canada. This paper, developed by the Principal Investigator for the national “hub” will describe the work of the Partnerships at the project’s half way point. It will provide an overview of the main work that has been completed or is underway. It will discuss how the Partnerships have dealt with challenges that have arisen and others that still concern us. It will suggest the main avenues of research that will be pursued in the time remaining in the project. The paper is offered as a way to “report out” to one of the key constituencies for research in the field in hopes that it will stimulate discussions and advice to help guide the Partnerships in the completion of its work.
