The goal of this paper is analyzing the evolution of co-operative societies and labor societies (sociedades laborales) in the Spanish territory during the period 1989-2007. As well as it´s pretended to relate the economic context in which these entities are developing their activities and to study their contribution to economic development and job creation. For that, we will use two analysis related to the methodology of convergence, β-convergence (beta-convergence) and δ-convergence (sigma-convergence). Both cases are dispersion´s measurements that show if the reduction of inequalities between two variables is due to the evolution of them, having convergence, or, on the contrary, the dispersion is greater, having divergence. In the first model, beta-convergence, the evolution of variable “income” is observed from a base year, checking if her evolution is positive or negative to affirm that inequalities between rich and poor economies are increased or decreased, respectively. On the other hand, in the second model, sigma-convergence, the evolution of dispersion, measured by means of standard deviation of studied variable, is observed throughout several years, following the same system that the last model to obtain the results.
In this research, we use an approach of this methodology for observing the compared dynamic in the reduction of inequalities in the GDP and in the employment between the Social Economy and the total of Spanish Economy. Next, it´s presented a first approximation about the showed relation by the variables through a graphical analysis. Obtained results explain that, first, a great concentration effect exist between entities of Social Economy in Spain, centered in Andalusia, Catalonia and the Valencian Community, mainly, although in Castilla y León and Castilla-La Mancha also, when we are referring to labor societies (sociedades laborales) dynamic. On the other hand, the results showed that the entities of Social Economy appear in higher levels in those “Autonomous Communities” that showed a greater numbers of employees and a higher income per capita in the general Spanish economy.
